Being a bridesmaid is such an honor. You’ve been chosen by your friend to stand behind her on her special day, and what an opportunity it is! As the bride gets ready for the biggest moment of her life, you can be right behind her, providing support, but also laughter. Being a bridesmaid comes with different responsibilities, some large, and others small. Your role will depend on the bride and her needs, but you should make sure you are always prepared for anything that is thrown your way, no matter what it may be. It's good to stay organized too!
Have you ever asked yourself, "What are my duties as a bridesmaid?" Bridesmaid duties are certainly not easy, especially considering the timing of events, but they are most definitely worth it. This can be an intense, exciting, stressful and downright fun experience. So how should you approach this whole deal? Here are five things’ bridesmaids must do so they can help contribute to the success of the event.

Shopping for the Dress
If you are invited to come shop for the bride's wedding dress, of course go. When you're shopping for clothes, keep an open mind. Sure, you think you know what looks best on you, but someone else might have a different idea about what works best on her. If you go into this with an open mind, your opinions about what looks good on her might change over time as she grows more comfortable in her bridal gown. Maybe she'll love a different style by the end of the day than she did at the beginning of the day. Maybe one of those dresses, in your opinion, was completely perfect, and now it looks awful. The point is that if you remember to be supportive instead of critical, your friend may walk out of that store feeling more confident than she did when she stepped through those doors.
Offer to Help!
Most people are hesitant when it comes to asking for help. Chances are the bride has a lot to do. You could offer to do something as simple as mailing the invitations. Your offer may be declined, but it will be much appreciated that you even asked. As an important person in her life, you should want to make her life a little easier.
Be the Life of the Party!
At the wedding, encourage everyone to get up and dance! It's no fun if everyone is sitting while there is a party going on. You need to be one of the first ones to get up and start. The party needs to be great for the bride. Make sure everyone has fun. It's important that everyone has a good time at the wedding, whether it's your role or not. Make time early on to get people excited and engaged, even if it means doing something silly or putting everyone in a good mood before the big ceremony! Of course, stay out of trouble!

Keep your distance
Bridesmaids have a lot of important duties to take care of. However, the bride is likely to have enough on her plate, so don't be pushy and try not to be a bother. Depending on how close you are to the bride, you might want to ask her how she wants you to help or whether she would prefer it if you were not in the room for certain things. If you are in the bridal party, your obligation is essentially an extension of the bride's; however, there are still some things that might need your input, such as picking out a color for the bridesmaid dresses or assisting with styling. Of course, these tasks make a huge difference to the overall look of the wedding and should be handled by someone with bridal expertise.
Plan Ahead
Make sure everything goes smoothly at the wedding. Plan so that if something comes up, you can handle it quickly and easily. For example, if the flowers aren't ready on time, ask your boss for leave before the wedding so you'll have time to get them there on time (if they won't give it to you just for the day, ask for it for two weeks!). If something is broken or out of place at the wedding venue, just tell your boss what happened; he'll send someone out right away with supplies to fix it.
But don't be pushy and don't expect your opinion to be valued too much just because you're a bridesmaid. Let the bride decide what needs doing and remember that most decisions are not made just because they involve you; don't force your opinion on her. She knows what she's doing and doesn't need any more help from you.
